Under the Highland coast

The Story

Greig was brought up exploring the West Coast of Scotland, where he was to later return and settle with his family on the Isle of Lismore. After 35 years living and working around the world, including 10 years in South America, the Caribbean and Asia, he now designs and creates from his studio and workshop, housed in restored outbuildings on his wife’s family farm.

Finding the natural beauty in the grain of carefully selected pieces of local hard wood is the desired effect of his work and has always been a passion. The influence of the sea and many years of diving are reflected in the wood, delicately encapsulating the foraged treasures from the shorelines of the Scottish Highlands.

  • Calm water

Over millennia rain on the steep granite mountains has stripped away much of the sediment around the rivers and burns of the Scottish Highlands. This, combined with the cold temperatures, has created some of the clearest waters in the world and a diver’s dream.  The Calm Waters series of wall art combines foraged treasures from the shore and specially selected character hard wood to reflect those exceptional days in the Highlands when you can look into the depths of the Sea.

  • Piers of Scotland

    Small occasional tables.

Hundreds of Piers throughout the Scottish Highlands and Islands have for centuries enabled access by sea to otherwise isolated communities. Above the water they look intrusive and industrial, many are now in disrepair but below the water they attract an incredible diversity of marine life.

  • Highland Coast

The coast of the Scottish Highlands is known for stunning scenery and its sparse population which doesn't disappoint on closer inspection. From historic towns to fishing hamlets dispersed between wild and untamed mountains the seas surrounding this area are a haven to wildlife with much of the shore being inaccessible by land. On a good day it takes your breath away, on a bad day, seek shelter.

  • Rockpool

As the slow tide ebbs along the rugged Highland coast, it leaves behind the captured waves and uneven sides of endless miniature seabed’s, exposed for all.  The Rock Pool series of miniature work gives a glimpse of the soft colours, dancing weeds and veins of rock that host this incredible world.

  • Sounds of Scotland

The Sounds of Scotland series of large coffee tables is inspired by the many spectacular narrow bodies of water around Scotland’s rugged coast. Typically separating islands or peninsulas, Sounds or inlets can vary in size from substantial sea channels to the tiny Clachan Sound, spanned by an old stone bridge.

  • Ports of Lismore

This wall art is Inspired by a time when life was inseparable from the sea. Old maps of Lismore show more than 17 named ports that today look like small stony beaches breaking up the rugged coastline

  • Islets of Lismore

    Small occasional tables

The rugged coastline of the Isle of Lismore is surrounded by many small Islands that range in size from barely visible above the waves to 1km long. All are inhospitable unless you are a seal or seabird and they give there names to this collection of hardwood tables.
